Brief Introduction

• Lactobacillus acidophilus is a Gram-positive, non-spore forming, homo-fermentative, catalase-negative probiotics. It is a common inhabitant of the human intestinal tract,the human mouth and vagina. It is also found in some traditional fermented milk(e.g. kefir)and is today widely used in food, beverages, dietary supplements, skin care products and animal nutrition.
• Lactobacillus acidophilus LA11-Onlly screened and originates from healthy infant, is manufactured in China and deposited under CGMCC No. 2106 at the China General Microbiological Culture Collection Center and CNCM No. I-4457 at the Collection Nationale de Cultures de Microorganismes in France. The strain Lactobacillus acidophilus LA11-Only has been subjected to API 50CHL sugar fermentation pattern analysis and a 16 S rDNA sequence analysis.And it has resistance to acid and bile.

Animal study

A probiotic product containing LA11-ONLLY (1×10⁹ CFU/g) was used in the study. The recommended daily intakes is 2g per day. Forty lab rats were divided into four groups, which were feeding with 0.17g/kg, 0.33g/kg, 1g/kg of the product and distilled water for control respectively. And the diversity of intestinal microflora was analyzed before and after the feeding trial. The result shows that the probiotic can significantly increase the count of Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus in rats intestine. Meanwhile it has no obvious influence on Enterobacter, Enterococcus and Clostridium perfringens in rats. Thereby, the results demonstrated that LA11-ONLLY has the function with modulate intestinal microflora and balance the immune system.

Human study

The double-blind controlled clinical trial was adopted in this study. One hundred volunteers were randomly divided into two groups, group LA11-ONLLY (supplemented with the probiotic product of LA11-ONLLY, 2g/d)and control group (placebo, 2g/d).After 14 days’ feeding trial, the count of Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus in group LA11-ONLLY distinctly increased. While the count of Bacteroides, Enterobacter, Enterococcus and Clostridium perfringens has no difference compared with control. The probiotic product with LA11-ONLLY can modulate human intestinal microflora.
