Theepolyfenol is een natuurlijk antioxidantbestanddeel gewonnen uit theebladeren, met een sterk antioxiderend vermogen, heeft het kenmerk van niet-giftige bijwerkingen en geen eigenaardige geur.
Het gehalte aan theepolyfenolen bedraagt ongeveer 20%-30% in droge theebladeren. Theepolyfenolen zijn de belangrijkste componenten die de kleur, het aroma, de smaak en de functie van thee bepalen. Ze kunnen worden onderverdeeld in catechines, flavonen, anthocyanen en fenolzuren.
